About the UnConference

Our first UnConference had its auspicious beginning at Irongate School, Flaxmere on March 6th, 2019. The idea was to provide educators and practitioners trained in Te Ara Whakamana: Mana Enhancement with an opportunity to present their exciting innovations, experiences, and outcomes to an audience of their peers. The added twist for presenters was they were given 3 minutes to convince the audience to attend their presentations. The success of the day saw Arahoe School, New Lynn, Auckland pick up the mantle of hosting the UnConference in their school the following year. The Te Ara Whakamana: Mana Enhancement Mauri Stone was presented to Arahoe School and held in their care until the end of their tenure where it was then picked up by Tukituki RTLB Cluster 23 in Hastings, who are hosting the 2021 Hui ā Tau/UnConference, with Te Kura o Mangateretere providing the venue.

As the Hui ā Tau/UnConference evolves, so do the richness of the presentations delivered by passionate advocates of Te Ara Whakamana: Mana Enhancement. From Researchers to Beginning Teachers, Digital Technology to Storytelling, Mana Teams to Horses Helping Humans, the range of new applications, innovations, subject matter and settings continues to delight and inspire audiences who are looking for a culturally respectful, effective, and inclusive approach to allow liberation to occur in their schools and organisations.

This Year's Theme

The theme of the 2021 Te Ara Whakamana: Mana Enhancement Hui ā Tau/UnConference, “I te Timatanga” has been set by the Tumuaki of Te Kura o Mangatertere, Mona Stewart. As Marama Ataera explains, “Not only is it a reference to the Māori Creation story with the struggles and emotions that the Atua experienced while debating the separation of their mātua, but it is also in reference to all the kaiako or tangata that have encountered similar challenges on starting their journey with Te Ara Whakamana.”

E nga mana, e nga reo, e nga iwi o te motu, nau mai, haere mai ki te 2021 Te Ara Whakamana: Mana Enhancement Hui ā Tau/UncConference!
